Hong Kong has one of the densest trail-running calendars in Asia. Within ninety minutes of Central you can stand on a ridgeline in Tai Lam, the Sai Kung peninsula, Lantau or the Wilson Trail — and you can race on every single one of them. This is the definitive list of what's coming up in 2026 and 2027, organised by month, with everything you need to know to enter.
We update this page as new races are announced and as dates firm up. Bookmark it. If you spot a race we've missed, email us and we'll add it.
The Big Four
Four races define the Hong Kong calendar — the ones that international runners fly in for, that sell out fast, and that everyone training in HK knows by name.
The Hong Kong 100 (HK100)
The original. Asia's flagship 100-kilometre ultra — a UTMB World Series Major event with a stacked international elite field. Starts in Pak Tam Chung at dawn, finishes in Tai Mo Shan after climbing Hong Kong's highest peak. Entries usually open in the previous July via ballot.

The 9 Dragons Ultra
Hong Kong's hardest under-100-mile race. Five distances across two days on the Nine Dragons ridgeline. The 50 miles starts at midnight from Tai Lam; the 50 km starts at dawn the next morning from Tai Po Tau. The 50/50 double-ultra strings them together with three hours of sleep in between — 138.1 km and 8,079 m of climbing.

Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon
The city's biggest road race — a 70,000-runner spectacle that closes the Western Harbour Crossing and the Stonecutters Bridge. Marathon course is fast and flat once you clear the tunnel. Entries open in the previous October and close within days for the marathon distance.

TransLantau by UTMB
The other UTMB Major on the HK calendar. Five distances cross Lantau's spine — Sunset Peak, Lantau Peak, the Olympic Trail — finishing on the Mui Wo waterfront. Earns UTMB running stones; popular with European and Australian runners as a winter target.

The RaceBase Calendar
The events we organise ourselves. All three start and finish in Hong Kong, all three are open to runners of every ability, and all three have full LGBTQ+, parenthood and accessibility policies you can read before you enter.
Pride Run HK
A celebration of every kind of runner on Hong Kong Island's southern hills. Two distances, free shuttle from Aberdeen, family-friendly finish village, and an unapologetically inclusive starting line. Built in partnership with Pride HK and the HK Rainbow runners.

Big Boar's Backyard Ultra
One loop. One hour. Last person standing wins. Big Boar's brings the backyard format to Bowen Road — the most-loved running path on Hong Kong Island, lit up at night, with rolling cut-offs and live commentary from the start corral. Date confirmed in autumn 2026.

Trail Series Worth Knowing
Action Asia Events
The longest-running trail series in Hong Kong. Multi-stage adventure races, sprint trail events around Sai Kung and the New Territories, and the Action Asia Challenge — six events across the year. A great way to dip into trail racing without committing to a 50 km.
Lantau Base Camp Trail Series
Casual mid-distance trail races on Lantau — 18 km to 35 km — typically running October through March. Cheaper entries, smaller fields, and a route designer who clearly enjoys finding fresh ridgelines.
RaceBase Affiliate Events
Events we host registration for but don't organise ourselves — including the Bauerfeind Series, charity 10K events around Bowen Road and Repulse Bay, and several university trail challenges. Browse the full list in your Bibly account.

How to Pick Your First Hong Kong Race
If you're new to HK racing — or new to racing full-stop — here's how I'd think about it:
Brand-new to trail: Start with Pride Run HK 5 km or an Action Asia sprint. You'll get a finish-line photo, no time pressure, and a sense of what HK trails feel like underfoot.
You can run 10 km comfortably: Step up to the 9 Dragons 25 km or Pride Run HK 9 km. Both are achievable, both will hurt, both will teach you something about Hong Kong's climbs.
You've done a marathon: The 9 Dragons 50 km is the natural first ultra in HK — it's hard, but it's a single-day effort and the cut-off is generous. After that, look at TransLantau 50 km.
You're chasing UTMB stones: HK100, TransLantau 100 km and TransLantau 140 km all earn stones. Pick the one whose course profile matches your strengths — HK100 is relentless rolling; TransLantau 140 is mountainous and brutal.
You want to finish a 100-miler in Asia: The 9 Dragons 50/50 is the closest Hong Kong has. 138.1 km, 8,079 m climbing, two starts, three hours of sleep. If you can finish the 50/50, you can finish 100 miles anywhere.
One race at a time
Resist the urge to fill the calendar. The runners who finish strong here are the ones who pick one big race per season and build everything else around it. Use the small races as workouts, not as targets. Read our 20-week training plan for The 9 Dragons to see how that works in practice.
Stay In the Loop
Race dates change, ballots close fast, and shoulder-season events get added through the year. We keep this page updated, but if you want it pushed to you instead, drop your email on the RaceBase homepage and we'll send a once-a-month digest — never spam, just dates worth knowing.
